The month of December is always filled with jubilation and buying of goods both for Christmas and New Year. It is a common tradition in Nigeria that as the festive period is drawing close, children are entitled to new dresses and shoes, so as to be in sync with the period. Parents that are aware of their children’s academic needs always spend having at the back of their mind the need of the kids once they resume. Parents will not spend their tuition fees on Christmas clothes, shoes, and merry-making. However, if in your own case you did not plan well, and consequently spent above your budget for the previous holiday, you can read on Christmas Holiday Ideas to Try with Your Kids. With this, you know how to spend little and still have a memorable festive period with your kids.

Most schools across the country resumed on January 6, and even though the second term is not as heated as the first term, the term is still filled with lots of academic and extracurricular activities. Thanks to SchoolsCompass’ relationship with both Parents and Schools, we have gathered information that concludes that parents should not wait till it is time for resumption before they commence preparations for going back to school, in the aspect of tuition and materials (stationary like bags, books, etc.). It is a common saying in Nigeria that January always feels like the longest month of the year; don’t bother checking your calendar, it does not have more than 31 days. However, the reason why it is tagged so is because of the financial instability many face then. The festive holidays seem to have been bubbling for many that they forget that saving ahead is important for the New Year.

As a parent, you do not focus your spending only on the frivolous wants of your children but also save ahead for the new term. Resumption is expensive, especially for parents who have more than one kid in school. Apart from preparing them for school academically, you should also prepare them health-wise. Have them vaccinated, test and treat them for typhoid and malaria. So how then do you prepare your kids for resumption proper?

Now that the holiday is over and you have gotten every necessary material for your children, you need to let your kids know that school has started. It is your duty as their parent to help them adapt to the change. The best way to go about this is by talking to your kids. Let them understand that school has resumed, and there will be changes, especially in their playtime. Also, get them involved in other extra-curricular activities, this is to help get them engaged rather than waste their time.

In addition, set up goals with your kids for the new term. You let them know that they can always get better academically. So, if there are areas where you feel they should improve in, get their teachers involved while you also put up plans that will help them focus more on studying than playing.

You see now that most of the resumption responsibilities lie on you the parent, it is your duty to ensure that the kids have a wonderful and fun-filled learning experience.
