Ogun State, which has Abeokuta as its capital was founded in February 1976. It is currently headed by Senator Ibikunle Amosun and is referred to as the Gateway to Nigeria. If I was still little I could probably say it’s because of their Ofada rice produced in Ofada town in respect of the saying that “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” I would have been wrong.
It borders the Republic of Benin to the East, Lagos state to the South, Ondo state to the West and Osun state to the North with twenty (20) local Governments. Ogun state consists of both Christians and Muslims but majorly Christians and has amazing cultural events which include the “Ake Festival of Arts and Books” founded in 2013 by one of the Nigerian great writers, Lola Shoneyin. Talking about books, there is a historic, tourist and academic presidential library owned by former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and even the National Library of Nigeria is located in the same state.
