5 Things to Keep Your Kids Engaged During the Summer Holiday

The school year is almost coming to an end, and many parents are worried about how to engage their children during the holiday while they can go about their daily job. The holiday is that period when kids get off academic and learning activities, they regain strength and wear off stress for some time. It is the time of the year where parents and their children can spend more quality time together and bond. Parents are always careful during the holiday period not to allow their kids misbehave at times like this; this puts a lot of pressure on them as they seek to get them involved during the holiday. Here are 5 things you can help keep your kids busy during the holiday:

1. Vacation Trips

As said earlier that the holiday is the time for rest, the kids are expected to take their mind off academic activities, relax and have fun. For parents that can afford to change the environment of their kids and take them out. By doing this, they are exposed to new things and ideas. Organize play dates and take them to places like museum, art gallery, park, zoo, cinemas and many other attractive places. 2. IT (Information Technology) Training

We are in the jet age, and the interest of children in technology is growing fast. This summer holiday is the best time to enroll them in IT classes. This does not only help grow their interest in learning more about technology, it also helps in keeping them occupied during the holiday. Classes they can register for includes the likes of learning the basic Microsoft package (MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint), graphic designing, website designing etc. 

3. Art Classes

We have some children that are gifted when it comes to arts and crafts, but do not get enough free time to practice due to their academic classes. Summer holiday is a flawless opportunity for them to work on their talents. Art forms like painting, music and dance class, drawing, sculpture, pottery, bead making, and other handicrafts can be learned within the holiday period. Children can express themselves freely in class like this, and it also helps in building and sharpening their imaginative and creative minds. 

4. Vocational Training

The rate of unemployment is increasing daily in the country, and many advice that children should pick up vocational skills that can be useful to them later in the future. Parents are not to force any skill on their children- let them decide on what skill they have interest in learning, and register them for the class. Photography, Sewing, catering, hair making, hair barbing, etc. are some of the skills that can be registered for. This helps to train the children to be skillful, helpful at home and independent, getting them ready for whatever they might face in the outside world. 

5. Reading

The holiday being a time of rest from academic activities does not mean they should not read. Reading, an important part of learning is dying among the children of nowadays, many of them even say they read to pass and not to learn. Parents are to help build the habit of reading in their children, buy them books like historical books, story books, novels or inspirational books. If it is possible to take them to kid’s libraries around you, do so. This also helps them connect with children of their age and develop their reading habits.

The holiday is a time of rest, but it can also be that time when kids learn one thing or the other. Another skill you can engage your children in is sports. Not all kids are interested in everything at the same time, which is why before you enroll them for any skill or art class you need to know what they have interest in.
