One of our previous articles spoke on Discovering Your Child’s Talent. We made it known to you that every child has a talent, it is your duty as their parent to help them discover it and develop it. We also advised that you do not try to force them into a particular activity; if you notice your child loves singing, enroll such child in a school that is known for its music class.  Enrolling your child in a school is one way of providing the right environment for the kid’s talent. The type of school you enroll your child in should depend on the interest he/she has. With more than 3000 schools on Schoolscompass, we can tell you that every school has its niche. It is your duty as the parent to find the right school that aligns with the interest of your child. When you are in search of a school, what are the things you look out for?

As a parent, so many things might cloud your mind when you are searching for a school; the price, location, proximity, etc. But one thing should always be the first on your mind, ‘the interest of your child’. Not minding the aforementioned points, you can enroll your child in a school based on the following;

       2. Quality of service

      3. Their success stories

Looking at these three major points, not every school will be good at everything. After you have identified the interest of your child, the next step to take is getting the right school that supports such interest. You visit the school, check out the facilities they have;

  • If your child has an interest in sports, select a school with standard sporting facilities (football pitch, basketball court, swimming pool, etc.).

  • Does your child show interest in science,  ensure that they have standard lab equipment (standard chemistry, physics, biology, and computer laboratory).

  • If the interest of your child lies in the arts, schools with a standard art room and music laboratories are available.

All these facilities will do no good if the quality of the teachers there are poor. Based on the quality of service, a school might have most of the facilities, both academic and extra-curricular, but they lack competent human (staff) factors to make it work. Parents have enrolled in their kids in schools mainly because they heard about their last performance in a competition, or perhaps the parents witnessed the students of such school making any presentation at an event.

The school you want for your child should be a reflection of what they love doing; is it football, mathematics, science, spelling, swimming, etc. Sometime last year, a parent called us requesting a school that has a swimming pool, you would have known that the child obviously loves swimming – perhaps his dream is to be a future gold medalist like Michael Phelps. No matter what you do as a parent, the interest of your child(ren) must always be on your mind; teach them, guide them, support them, and show them the care they need to grow.
