Premiere Academy Celebrates her own, Sonia Nwakama Three Times Best Female Chess Player Award Abuja, 2023

Premiere Academy, Lugbe is dedicated to providing quality education to students to prepare them for success in their future endeavors. Our school offers a British Nigerian curriculum, experienced teachers, and a supportive community to help our students achieve their academic and personal goals. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide a safe and stimulating environment for learning, with modern classrooms, science labs, and computer labs. We also provide transportation services and a healthy meal program to ensure our students are comfortable and well-nourished throughout the day.

At the Abuja Inter-School Chess Competition, an annual event where students converge to compete in the game of chess, our students’ performance in the competition so far is a testament to the effectiveness of using chess as a tool to promote critical thinking among students at Premiere Academy.

Last year 2022, Premiere Academy took the first position in the Inter-School Chess Competition defeating a four-time winner of Federal Government Academy, Suleja. This year 2023, our very own, Sonia Nwakama in SS3, who has been groomed in the skills of chess since her entry into Premiere Academy, won the best female chess player award, making it three years consecutively she has held the title in the Inter-School Chess Competition FCT – Abuja.

Also, Kamsi Longman, our student won a gold medal in the male category as the best chess player on board 2; this is a demonstration that Premiere Academy’s students are developing their analytical and problem-solving skills continually through the game of chess.

We use chess to develop well-rounded students at Premiere Academy by integrating Chess Education into the Curriculum to promote critical thinking.  Our students are taught the basics of chess and are given opportunities to play against each other. As they progress, they are taught more advanced strategies that will make them think critically about each move they make.

Through in-house/external Chess tournaments, students compete with one another and showcase their skills. This not only helps to promote healthy competition but also provides students with an opportunity to practice and improve their critical thinking skills.

More so, the unwavering consistency of Sonia Nwakama in winning the best female chess player award in Abuja for three consecutive years shows that our mission to use chess to enhance critical thinking, logical reasoning, decision-making, strategic approach, and problem-solving skills is yielding its anticipated results in their academics.

Congratulations, Sonia Nwakama, our Pride!

We believe that every child has the potential to succeed at Premiere Academy and our Entrance Examination is the first step in unlocking that potential. Our Entrance Examination for the 2023/2024 academic session is on Saturday 29th April 2023.
