Fighting Slavery’s Legacy of Racism through Transformative Education

Premiere Academy, Lugbe is dedicated to providing quality education to students to prepare them for success in their future endeavors. Our school offers a British Nigerian curriculum, experienced teachers, and a supportive community to help our students achieve their academic and personal goals. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide a safe and stimulating environment for learning, with modern classrooms, science labs, and computer labs. We also provide transportation services and a healthy meal program to ensure our students are comfortable and well-nourished throughout the day.

As we mark the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, it is important to recognize that the history of slavery belongs to everyone. The effects of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, including its racist legacy and harmful consequences, still exist today.

Therefore, transformative education plays a crucial role in empowering students and everyone to critically examine the social world and challenge unjust systems as agents of change. By teaching and learning about slavery, we can work towards ending racism and injustice, and build inclusive societies based on the dignity of human rights for all.

In partnership with the United Nations (UN), we remember and reflect as a school on the stories of the millions of Africans like Elaudah Equiano, Phillis Whitney, and Jupiter Hammond among others who were forcibly removed from their homelands and communities. Today, we honour their memory and stand in solidarity against racism everywhere.

We believe that every child has the potential to succeed at Premiere Academy and our Entrance Examination is the first step in unlocking that potential. Our Entrance Examination for the 2023/2024 academic session is on Saturday 29th April 2023.
