Terms of Service

The agreement between you and SchoolsCompass when you list, manage, or promote a school on our platform.

Welcome to SchoolsCompass — Nigeria's largest school discovery platform, connecting over 5,000 schools with more than 1 million parents and guardians each month. By creating an account and listing your school, you agree to the terms below. Please read them carefully.

1 Who can use SchoolsCompass

You must be at least 18 years old and legally authorised to represent the school you are registering. By signing up, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate, that you are either the proprietor, administrator, or an officially designated representative of the school, and that you have permission to publish the school's profile, photos, and contact details.

2 Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.
You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account.
One school proprietor may manage multiple school listings, but each listing must represent a genuine, operating institution.
Accounts found to be fraudulent, duplicated, or misleading may be suspended or removed without notice.

3 What you can list

SchoolsCompass is built exclusively for legitimate Nigerian educational institutions — including nurseries, primaries, secondaries, vocational centres, and tertiary institutions. You may publish:

School name, address, and recognised academic information
Tuition fees, curriculum, facilities, and admission requirements
Photos and videos that you own or have rights to use
Authentic news, events, and achievements

4 What is not allowed

False, defamatory, or plagiarised content
Content that infringes any third party's intellectual property
Hate speech, harassment, or material harmful to minors
Soliciting parents off-platform to bypass SchoolsCompass safeguards
Misrepresenting accreditation, results, or affiliations

5 How leads and enquiries work

To protect parents and to keep your school's enquiry pipeline clean, all parent enquiries are routed through SchoolsCompass. Calls and messages are screened, logged, and forwarded to you only when they are genuine admission-related contacts. This is explained in full in our Privacy Policy.

6 Free listing & premium plans

A standard listing on SchoolsCompass is free. Premium features — including verified badges, top-of-search placement, virtual tours, and lead analytics — are available on paid plans. You may upgrade, downgrade, or cancel a paid plan at any time from your dashboard. Charges are billed in advance and are non-refundable for the current billing period unless required by law.

7 Reviews & ratings

Parents may publish honest reviews of your school. SchoolsCompass moderates reviews to remove spam, defamation, and content that violates our community guidelines, but we do not edit a parent's genuine opinion. You may publicly respond to any review from your dashboard.

8 Intellectual property

You retain ownership of the content you upload. By uploading, you grant SchoolsCompass a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, and promote that content on our website, mobile apps, marketing materials, and partner channels solely to help parents discover your school.

9 Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate access to a listing if you breach these terms, if the school ceases operation, if regulators flag the institution, or if your conduct puts parents or children at risk. You may close your account at any time by contacting support@schoolscompass.ng.

10 Liability

SchoolsCompass is a discovery and listing platform. We do not operate, accredit, or guarantee the services of any school. To the maximum extent permitted by law, SchoolsCompass is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from enrolment decisions, missed leads, or content posted by users.

11 Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably shall be referred to the competent courts in Lagos State.

12 Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email or via a banner in your dashboard. Continued use of SchoolsCompass after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

How we collect, protect, and use your information — and why your phone number stays private.

At SchoolsCompass, your privacy is sacred to us. This policy explains what information we collect when you register a school, why we collect it, how we safeguard it, and the choices you have. It is written in plain language so you can be confident before you continue.

1 Information we collect

Personal details — your name, title, email address, and phone number.
School details — institution name, address, photos, fees, facilities, and curriculum.
Account activity — logins, dashboard usage, and lead history.
Technical data — IP address, device, browser, and approximate location for security and analytics.

2 Why we collect it

To create and secure your SchoolsCompass account.
To publish your school's public profile so parents can discover it.
To route verified admission enquiries to you.
To improve search results, recommendations, and platform safety.
To send service updates, lead notifications, and (with your consent) marketing tips.

3 Your phone number is private — always

This is important. SchoolsCompass will never display the contact number of school owners, administrators, or their agents on any public school profile. Instead, the official SchoolsCompass enquiry number is shown to parents. We screen every call and message, verify the parent's identity and admission intent, and only then forward genuine enquiries to you. This protects your school from spam, sales calls, and prank callers — so the only numbers reaching you are admission-related contacts from SchoolsCompass.

Your direct contact details may only become visible to a parent after our team is fully satisfied with the parent's identity and the legitimacy of their mission on SchoolsCompass. This safeguard applies whether the parent reaches us by phone, WhatsApp, email, or via the website.

4 What parents see on your profile

Your school's name, address, photos, and academic information.

The official SchoolsCompass enquiry line.
Never the personal phone number or private email of any owner, head teacher, or staff member.

5 How we protect your data

All connections are encrypted with 256-bit TLS.
Passwords are hashed with industry-standard algorithms — we cannot read them.
Access to personal data is restricted to authorised SchoolsCompass staff under strict confidentiality agreements.
Servers are hosted in secure, ISO-certified data centres with regular backups and 24/7 monitoring.

6 Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We only share data with:

Verified parents — and only after our screening process is complete.
Service providers who help us operate (hosting, SMS, email, analytics), all bound by data-protection agreements.
Regulators and law-enforcement where legally required.

7 Cookies & analytics

We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the platform is used so we can improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect some features.

8 Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 and similar laws, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct inaccurate or outdated information.
Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
Withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time.
Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

9 Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your school remains listed with us. If you close your account, we retain a minimal record for up to 24 months for fraud prevention, regulatory, and lead-history purposes, after which it is permanently deleted.

10 Children's privacy

SchoolsCompass is intended for adults registering and managing schools. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Photos of pupils must be uploaded only with the consent of parents or guardians, in line with your school's safeguarding policy.

11 Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will notify you by email and via your dashboard at least 14 days before the changes take effect.
